Description

Retinoid Booster is a specialised solution of pure retinol in very high concentration, developed for problematic skin, acne, seborrhoea, as well as skin with pronounced signs of photo-ageing.

Formulated for intensive anti-acne action with simultaneous thickening action. The product competes well with professional dermatological preparations with retinoic acid, offering a comprehensive treatment for acne-prone skin and severe photo-damage and a decrease in firmness.

Benefits

  • Reduction of acne lesions: retinol effectively prevents the formation of blackheads and other acne lesions.
  • Firming and levelling photodamage: retinol in such high concentrations helps remove accumulated damage from the skin caused by daily UV exposure.
  • Reducing scars and stretch marks: by strongly stimulating the production of several types of collagen, retinol effectively combats problems associated with connective tissue loss, such as stretch marks and scars of various textures.
  • Texture levelling: the intensive keratolytic action of retinol promotes smoothing of the epidermal surface, including enlarged pores.
  • Intensive brightening of hyperpigmentation: retinol lightens hyperpigmentation of post-sun and hormonal origin.

Active ingredients

  • Retinol 1% – is a form of vitamin A that is converted in the skin to retinoic acid, which activates retinoid receptors (RAR and RXR) in skin cells. These receptors regulate the expression of many genes responsible for the growth, differentiation and regeneration of skin cells. By activating these receptors, retinol influences more than 500 genes, particularly those related to collagen formation, which contributes to improved skin texture. Retinol increases the synthesis of type I, III collagen and elastin by stimulating fibroblasts-cells responsible for the production of structural proteins in the skin. Collagen is a key component of connective tissue that provides the skin with elasticity and resilience.
Studies have shown that the use of 1% retinol can increase collagen synthesis by approximately 30% after several weeks of use. Retinol also has a keratolytic effect, meaning that it speeds up the process of epidermal exfoliation and skin regeneration. This removes dead epidermal cells, which is helpful for acne-prone skin. Retinol also regulates sebum production, which reduces the growth of bacteria and inflammation that can lead to the development of acne.

Indications

Skin type: normal, combination, oily.

Skin problems: acne vulgaris, adult acne, rosacea on the basis of highly seborrhoeic skin, hyperpigmentation, photoageing, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks.

Application

The petal jar can be flooded with the solution or the liquid can be applied to the cosmetic pad from the jar with a pipette each time. The solution should not be applied directly to the face with the pipette.

Application to areas with acne lesions or signs of photo-ageing: use in evening care. Use a soaked pad after a two-step skin cleansing:
– for thick, oily and porous skin – rub the pad firmly over the skin, paying particular attention to areas with inflammatory lesions and severe seborrhoea.
– For normal skin – spread Retinoid Booster with a cotton pad using a stamping motion.

Recommended frequency: initially apply the pads 1-2 times a week, then gradually increase the frequency of application.
Treatment with Retinoid Booster may cause peeling and irritation of the epidermis. If symptoms occur, increase the interval between applications. External retinoid treatment (if there are no contraindications) should last continuously: 18-24 months.

Synergistic use: To maximise the effect, always apply a high quality zinc oxide UV filter with a minimum of SPF 30-50 during the day to ensure comprehensive protection and proper metabolism of retinol in the skin.

NOTE:
Do not use during pregnancy (product can be used during lactation).

Research and effectiveness

Retinol has been used in cosmetics for several decades since it was shown to have similar anti-ageing effects to retinoic acid, but with fewer side effects. One study compared the effects of retinol (the alcoholic form of vitamin A) and retinoic acid on various aspects of human skin, including histological, molecular and clinical properties.

The authors aimed to determine which of the two ingredients was more effective in skin care and regeneration. Participants used concentrations of 0.5% and 1% retinol and 0.025% to 0.1% retinoic acid. Retinoic acid is already the active form, meaning it does not need to be converted in the body, whereas retinol requires conversion to retinoic acid to achieve therapeutic effects. Four weeks of treatment with retinoic acid and retinol increased epidermal thickness and increased gene expression of collagen type 1 (COL1A1) and collagen type 3 (COL3A1) with a corresponding increase in protein expression of procollagen I and procollagen III.

Facial image analysis showed a significant reduction in facial wrinkles after 12 weeks of retinol application. The results of this study show that topical retinol application significantly affects the cellular and molecular properties of the epidermis and dermis, as demonstrated by skin biopsy and non-invasive imaging analyses. Although the scale is usually smaller, retinol induces similar changes in skin histology and gene and protein expression compared to retinoic acid application. These results were confirmed by the significant anti-ageing facial effect observed in the retinol clinical efficacy study.
